MSI N480GTX Twin Frozr II: Play Games Chilled

MSI claims that its new N480GTX Twin Frozr II graphics card offers quiet performance as well as low operating temperatures. The card features thicker heat pipes, military-grade components and support for the latest NVIDIA video technologies. Based on the new PCI Express 2.0 bus architecture, it also benefits from 1536MB of high-speed onboard graphics memory, a couple of DVI ports and an HDMI port.

The N480GTX Twin Frozr II, as the name suggests, features the company’s own Twin Frozr II thermal design where a large-area copper-base heat-sink and super high-density fins are joined by two 8cm (3.14-inch) PWM fans and 5 heat-pipes. MSI uses 8mm (0.314-inch) pipes that are said to increase cooling efficiency by as much as 90 per cent.

The N480GTX has a 700MHz Core and 1.5GB GDDR5 onboard memory, is designed to run on the new PCI Express 2.0 bus architecture which offers a bandwidth of up to 5GT/s (gigatransfers per second) and is built using military-grade components such as Hi-c CAP, Solid State Choke and All-Solid caps for extended product lifespan and stability.

There’s support for the company’s Afterburner overclocking software that gives users control over GPU and memory clock adjustment and GPU overvoltage and the inclusion of the Kombustor burn-in testing tool allows system steadiness tests to be performed. Of course, being based around NVIDIA’s GeForce 480 GTX, the card also gets 3D Vision Surround for multiple display immersion, PhysX effects to add more realism to gaming worlds and CUDA and 3-way SLI performance enhancements.

The dual-fan thermal design is said to reduce operating temperature by as much as 14 degrees Celsius while also offering 4dB lower noise, when compared to MSI’s reference design. Output is via a couple of DVI ports and a mini-HDMI port.

MSI has given no official word on pricing but it’s unlikely to be situated at the cheaper end of the graphics card market.

Call of Duty Black Ops Arriving In 3D (Requires Shutter Glass)

"Call of Duty: Black Ops 3D comes this November 9, so we tighten our belts to play this game of combat with more action items on the front.

Users must have an HDTV ready 3D or full 3D computer with active shutter glasses needed to experience the highly anticipated game in this format. Although many users are unlikely to have 3D devices, Activision's decision represents a major step in the game industry: "Call of Duty" is one of the first games of popularity for this type of technology used.

"Development of 3D stereoscopic began as an R & D, but once we saw what the technology brought to the 'Call of Duty' experience, which is a great fit and shape of immersion was, we knew we be developed for 'Black Operations' "Mark Lamia, Treyarch studio head said in a statement. "Aim down the sights of their weapons, flying in helicopters, abseiling in the mountains, and moving through highly detailed environments are just some of the amazing experiences that have 3D" Black Ops. "

The idea of the game itself is a new angle. Players engage in guerrilla warfare and covert operations in the middle of the desert, single and multiplayer formats. Of course, the game will include his trademark zombie Nazis, as confirmed by Activision in August.

"Black Ops" will be available in 3D and non-3D versions on the PC Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows. Also be available on the Nintendo Wii in non-3D version.

PS3 3D Titles: Now Control 3D Depth With A Slider

Some good news for PS3 users, the developers of November’s Sly Cooper compilation are taking into consideration of including a controller-based slider that will adjust the depth of 3D displayed by the game. According to a Sony producer, being able to manually adjust the 3D depth would help consumers enjoy the game’s 3D effect without any health issues.

Some consumers do experience nausea and headaches when the 3D is at a certain depth. And so Sony plans to solve this problem among its users. Even Nintendo 3DS system has a hardware 3D slider that controls the depth of the 3D, from full 3D, all the way down to flat 2D. And now following them, Sanzaru Games, the developers of the upcoming Sly Cooper Collection, are also considering a controller-based 3D slider to that game.

In a demo with Sly Cooper Collection, the producer showed Kotaku how the 3D slider could be mapped to the left analog stick if it wasn’t being used in-game. The producer also demonstrated that the analog slider could be used to change the position of the “3D sweet spot.” Moving out of a 3DTV or monitor’s sweet spot will lead to a doubled image or intense headaches as your vision tries to compensate. The feature would allow users to choose a comfortable sweet spot in their own living room.

Sly Cooper Collection is not currently slated to have a 3D slider implemented, as Sony is merely testing the feature. If Sony finds that the feature works well, it could extend to all other Sony-published 3D games as well. Sly Cooper Collection is schedule to ship this November.
